Youth Advocacy for Clean Energy
What began as a group of students concerned about the air they breathe at home grew into a broader campaign for cleaner energy in Palo Alto. Through research and reporting, the interns highlighted the efforts of middle and high school students involved with Induction Rocks, a student-led group advocating for induction stoves as a healthier and more environmentally friendly alternative to gas appliances.
The interns examined the connections between gas appliances, indoor air pollution, public health, and climate change while speaking with students, city officials, and community leaders. Their reporting captured how young advocates used scientific research, community outreach, and civic engagement to bring attention to these issues and influence local policy.
By highlighting the students’ efforts and their impact on the Palo Alto community, the work demonstrates how youth advocacy can contribute to meaningful conversations surrounding clean energy, public health, climate policy, and environmental change.
